Chemical Peels

Chemical peels remove damaged outer layers of skin on the face to smooth texture, reduce scarring and remove blemishes and precancerous growths to produce healthy, glowing skin. Peel formulas and strengths are tailored to each patient. Peels can be combined with other procedures such as facelifts for a younger look.

Microdermabrasion

Mason City Clinic | Skin ProceduresAs we age, the rate at which our skin sheds and replenishes itself slows down. This leaves a layer of dead cells on the surface of the skin, contributing to an aged appearance. Microdermabrasion and chemical peels remove a layer of surface skin to improve the appearance of facial scarring due to uneven pigmentation, wrinkles, sun damage, age spots and certain kinds of skin lesions. They help exfoliate the damaged layer to reveal the younger, healthier skin beneath. Microdermabrasion and chemical peels each have advantages and disadvantages, so we typically combine microdermabrasion with a light chemical peel for best results. After the procedure, it is normal to feel a sensation similar to sunburn for 24 to 48 hours, although most patients are able to return to work immediately following the procedure. For best results, usually three treatment sessions, three weeks apart, are needed. Patients should be sure to adequately protect skin from sunlight.

Body Lesions

Repeated exposure to sunlight, especially ultraviolet light, can cause a variety of cosmetic and medical problems in our skin. These include telangiectasia (red or purple “spider veins”), uneven pigmentation, lines and wrinkles, thinning of skin, loss of skin elasticity, and melanoma and other skin cancers. The damage our skin suffers from sunlight is cumulative and often gradual, so the effects appear as we age and worsen with time.
