Forehead Lift (Brow Lift)
Brow lifts can revitalize drooping or lined foreheads. This helps you lose an angry, sad or tired expression. The muscles above the eyes are altered to smooth lines and raise the eyebrows for a more youthful appearance. This procedure is often combined with other operations such as eyelid surgery and/or facelifts to improve the look of your eyes and other facial areas.
Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, can rejuvenate the area above and below your eyes. Excess skin in these areas, called dermatochalasis, can result in “bags” below your eyes or “hooding” of your upper eyelids over your eyelashes. The fat that is naturally found underneath both the upper and lower eyelids can become more apparent with age and can also contribute to the appearance of an old or tired look. Upper and lower blepharoplasty involves well-hidden incisions to provide access to the fatty deposits so they can be removed or returned to their natural position. Different appearances may require different manipulations, and skin laxity in these areas can also be corrected to varying degrees, depending on the individual patient.
The goal of eyelid surgery at Mason City Clinic Plastic Surgery is to provide a rejuvenated, more youthful appearance to the area of your face that is most noticeable with respect to personal interaction. Particular attention must be paid to the natural anatomy and preoperative condition of your eyelids to prevent an “operated” look. Tightening of the eyelid structures enables restoration of an attractive almond shape, while careful attention to surgical detail can prevent a “hollowed” appearance.
The incisions associated with blepharoplasty can allow access to your cheek, brow and midface so that ancillary procedures may be simultaneously performed. Dr. Mulkey and Dr. Recinos will offer insightful suggestions concerning possible surgical procedures that may benefit the facial form, though their patient’s wishes are placed first and foremost in the final decision.
Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)
Ear surgery is for children or adults and can set prominent ears closer to the head and/or reduce the size of large ears. Surgery may also be helpful for “cupped ear,” “shell ear,” large or stretched earlobes or earlobes that have been torn. Each procedure lasts for one to two hours and may be performed as outpatient surgery under general or local anesthesia.
Chin Augmentation and Cheek Augmentation
Chin augmentation, as well as cheek augmentation, represent relatively small changes to your face that can have significant effects on the overall facial appearance. Multiple types of procedures can be used for these augmentations, either alone or in conjunction with other operations. Placement of facial implants to the correct tissue planes can result in a very pleasing, long-lasting refinement to areas of your mid-face and lower facial regions. Meticulous attention to surgical technique can help avoid rare infection complications, and with well-hidden incisions, patient satisfaction is typically very high.
Facial surgery is very well tolerated, and with meticulous technique, results in only temporary swelling and bruising. Pain is often minimal following these procedures. Depending on the type of facial surgery you require, the surgeon will educate you about specific postoperative expectations so you can plan a smooth recovery.
Lip Augmentation
Lip augmentation is an extremely common procedure in cosmetic surgery. It can be performed with soft-tissue fillers such as Juvéderm® (hylauronic acid) and fat injections or fat transfer. Dr. Mulkey and Dr. Recinos insist on performing these procedures personally.
Despite the extra time it takes, the surgeons feel that their in-depth knowledge of facial anatomy gained from their surgical experience allows for more refined injection techniques.
